Climate

We have no accurate climate data for our region.  The nearest weather station to us is in Bechar, Algeria.  Follow this link to the World Meterological Organisation to get an idea of the local climate.

These are some of our observations:

Summer (June / July / August)

These months can be extemely hot with temperatures reaching an estimated 50oC in the dunes.  At night the temperature may drop to about 20oC.  It is essential that visitors during these times come prepared with clothes to protect their skin, a large hat or turban and lots of suncream.  Be prepared to drink alot of water!  (We do not recommend the Nomad Experience for children during these very hot summer months.)  Rehydration sachets or tablets are an important part of any first aid kit in these months. Winter (November / December / January / February)

The days are typically bright and sunny with temperatures reaching upto 20oC.  However, the nights are VERY COLD with temperatures dropping to freezing at times.  (When there is enough moisture, we do get frost in the desert!).  We recommend that you bring a sleeping bag and warm clothes during these cold months.  On the Nomad Experience, some guests like to bring small tents rather than sleeping under the stars (for the occassions when we do not camp with Nomads.)

Spring & Autumn (March / April / May / September / October)

Many people believe that this is best time to visit the desert because the climate is much more moderate.  The days are warm and sunny, perhaps 25-30oC and the nights are cool but not usually cold.  Light clothes are fine for the day with a warmer layer for evenings and nights.  However, at these times of years when the weather is changing we do sometimes experience winds, some of which can be strong - creating visually dramatic and atmospheric sandstorms.

Rainfall

We do get occassional heavy downpours.  They are unpredictable, but are normally short in length.   You may want to bring some lightweight waterproof clothes.
